Curtains come down on the 10th LREB Summit as Governor Nyong’o is elected the new Chairperson
The 10th Lake Region Economic Bloc Summit has come to a close in Kisumu County.
The Summit is an annual high level meeting of the Economic Bloc’s leadership and development partners to discuss ways of energising and coordinating the economic vision of the 14 Lake Basin counties.
The Summit comes at a time of transition of member County administrations following the just concluded general elections.
The Bloc’s leadership conducted its elections on the sidelines of the Summit where Governors Prof. Peter Anyang Nyongo of Kisumu County and HE Kenneth Lusaka of Bungoma were elected Chair and Vice Chair respectively.
During the two days of the Summit, the Bloc affirmed their commitment to the vision of founding principles.
The outgoing chair HE Wycliffe Oparanya, Kakamega Governor emeritus paid glowing tribute to the founding Governors of the LREB vision as he handed over the instruments of power to the incoming leadership. He thanked them for having allowed him to lead the Bloc for five years.
During this Summit, a number of partnerships were proposed for implementation some of which are ongoing such as the Zipline Drone project in Kisumu and the proposed Solar project on Lake Kanyaboli in Siaya County in partnership with Procorp Enertech (P) Ltd company from India.
Present were Governors from Bungoma, Kisii, Siaya, Nyamira, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Tranzoia, Busia, Nandi and Kakamega.
