I have over 24 years of experience in studies related to environmental assessments as indicated below: 1997-2005: Involved in several studies and assessments under the Lake Victoria Environment Management program phase I funded by the World Bank and GEF. These phase mainly focused on research and capacity building. 2005-2007: activities involved interventions on environmental conservation and infrastructure on community water supply under the Mt. Kenya East Pilot Project on Natural Resources under the funding of IFAD covering five districts namely: Embu, Meru South, Meru Central and Tharaka Nithi. 2007-2016: I was responsible for projects and programs development for the East African Community, Lake Victoria Basin Commission. My responsibility also entailed environmental assessments (especially Social and Environmental) for projects under the implementation of the Commission and in particular: Lake Victoria Environmental Management Program phase II with projects such as expansion of Kisat Sewerage Treatment in Kisumu and Homabay Sewerage Treatment. Lake Victoria Water Supply and Sanitation that was funded by the African Development Bank and implemented through water infrastructure (water supply, sanitation, and storm water flows management). Formulation of the Integrated Water Resources Management Program under the funding of the EU and Germany/KfW targeting Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. 2016- 2020: As the Head of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission I supervised, reviewed and approved all assessments and interventions through projects and programs. I particular I oversaw the launch of the IWRM program, the Adaptation to Climate Change and the Green growth project. I further supervision the Social and Environmental Strategic Impact Assessments for the Lake Victoria Transport project by the World Bank
During my five years as the Head of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, I have managed an inter-displinary and multicultural team from the East African Community Countries and International Consultants an Experts. The main sectors being environment and natural resources, climate change, water resources management, population & health, water and sanitation and cleaner production technology
The three projects that may have similar scope that I have been involved in are: Lake Victoria Water Supply and Sanitation project and in particular implementation of water supply systems in Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and TanzaniaMultinational Lake Victoria Maritime Transport and Communication projectLake Victoria Environmental Management project (installation of sewerage networks for Kisat and Homebay Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants)
I have been involved in the following projects to date: Integrated Water Resources Management project (High Priority Investments in Kenya namely sanitation in the informal settlement in Kisumu), Rwanda – Sewerage treatment plan in Kigali, Tanzania – extension of water supply systems in Mwanza and Uganda – restoration of the nakivubo wetland in Kampala. This is funded by the EU and Federal Republic of GermanyLake Victoria Water Supply and Sanitation funded by the African Development Bank;Lake Victoria Environmental Management project funded by the World Bank and GEFMulti-National Lake Victoria Transport and Communication funded by the African Development Bank;Enhancing Private Sector in Green Growth funded by the Nordic Development Fund;Mt.
